Our Mission

To expand HS students' interest in science and science-related careers by living and hiking in the natural world and experiencing field-based science.

Since 2005, we have provided a field-based intensive environmental training and research program to high school students from all over the state of North Carolina.  We offer multi-day, expeditionary science trips in partnership with the National Park Service in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.  During the 6-day experience, students will hike and backpack to a variety of ecosystems and collect important scientific data along the way. Students work closely with professional scientists to conduct field-based research.

“It’s really fun to take science out of the classroom.”
— Elizabeth Guffey, Summer 2015
